I am a detail girl. I love shooting details, at weddings: buttons on a dress, a bouttonierre, the favors on a table, a necklace. All those tiny things that brides obsess think about, plan and want to remember. I love this shot, because the dress is beautiful, the simple dress detail, and the curve of her waist. It's a really simple shot, but one of my favorite dress shots.

That's a commercial shot of my sister as model, for my friend Kiersten's company, which I'll explain more below.
Also, I shot my couple-that-I-can't-tell-you-about last week for their engagement shoot. It was so fun and amazing, and I wish I could show you the photos, and tell you all about it. And I may be able to at some point, but not now.
I will say, shooting someone who is absolutely sure of herself in front of a camera, and used to doing it, is an incredible thing for a photographer, and I think the pictures reflect that.
In other news, our family flew down to L.A. this weekend, to support my friend Kiersten, with a pre-Oscar event her company was invited to participate in. Have you heard of gifting suites? If not, here's a quick run-down. Celebrities are invited to come 'shop' (which isn't really shopping, because they're giving products away for free) at a gifting event. So Kiersten was invited to show at this event (which means, give her products away for free). And because I'm a photographer and because it was also her 30th birthday that weekend (and I wanted to be with her for that anyway), we decided to go down and support her.
So last Tuesdsay Kiersten overnighted me her latest products for Milkdudz, and my sis and I got to work. I was incredibly blessed on my thirtieth birthday to have my mom, dad and Grammy fly out and meet us for the last leg of our Italy trip, in Venice. They were all there to help me welcome my thirtieth decade. It was unbelievable to have them there.
This shot is one of my all-time favorites of my grandma. What you don't know about this picture is that we're standing in San Marco's square, dancing. And she's watching my girls dance, which is why she's got that happy look on her face, which is why I smile whenever I see it.
To me, the best photography is capturing a moment, that you can't get back, and the ability to look back and have total recall, which triggers the same emotion you had when you were in the midst of it. It's such an emotional art form.

Ross and I have been trying to figure out where we're going to go on our family vacation this year. We're leaning toward the UK and France. Ross gets a stronger vote this year, as it's his 30th birthday we'll be celebating over there. The reason for France? My husband's love for all things historical/WWII-related. He wants to see Normandy. And I love Paris. I already asked if we could do Italy again, but he said something about 'expanding our horizons...blah blah blah" =)
A year and a half ago, we went to Italy for my 30th birthday. It was our third (my fourth) time in Italy since we'd been together. We have a deep love for all things Italian; the history, the architecture, the art, the art history...

This picture above represents everything I love about Italy. It's in Pienza. The photo, to me, looks like a complete set-up; the light, the wall and bike are too perfect. Yet, we just happened to walk around the corner, while looking for food for the girls, and of course, I made the whole gravy train stop while I snapped the photo. A few feet away, we had an incredible lunch, in an equally incredible and captivating location. I didn't really love what we were served so much, except the location was so perfect and felt so Italian to me, that it's one of times that most stands out in my memory of Italy. Not only was the location picture-perfect, but I remember all of us (even Bella and Sofia -- see, even our kids names are Italian) just killing one another with laughter, while we waited for our food. I was in my dear cousin Danielle's (who I ADORE) wedding this year, when she married the wonderful Josh fox. She had hired a friend to shoot her wedding, because she wanted me to be able to be a bridesmaid without the stress of shooting, as well. So while I wasn't her main photographer, she did say she whould love for me to shoot when I could (if I wanted to), when it wasn't a pain, or wouldn't get in the way of my 'bridesmaid duties,' and I got some awesome images from her wedding. This is one of my very favorite. We were all getting ready, and I can't remember what happened but she just started busting up. That's when I captured this shot. It's one of my very favorites from the entire day; I love the feeling of movement, and that you can really tell that she's cracking up; the motion and the joy -- it doesn't even matter that part of her face is covered by her hair, because you can see the action of her laughter, which I absolutely love.
I presented her with an album of images from her wedding for Christmas and she and my aunt both cried over them. They have yet to get their shots from the photographer they hired, so these were the first real images they'd seen. It was so great to get to make them both so happy -- it's what I love about shooting people, giving them images of themselves that they love.
