Gina and Greg at the Boardwalk and Downtown Santa Cruz

I recently shot a super-fun engagement shoot with Gina and Greg at the Boardwalk.  I had a lot of fun shooting them, as they were game for ANYthing, and even had a lot of good ideas themselves.  We were having a good time at the Boardwalk, walking around and shooting, when security noticed my big old camera, and said that we weren't allowed to shoot there (even though there were streams of people passing us with just as powerful cameras). So we decided to head downtown, and I'm so glad we did, because we got some really fun shots down there as well. We even were able to go into the Del Mar theater and shoot in there, which was so cool, as it's got all these incredible old art deco details, which made for some fun shots. So maybe getting kicked out of the Boardwalk was a good thing after all! 

Of course, it's also fun for a photographer to shoot such a gorgeous couple; they're both adorable, and Gina's face was made for the camera, and it doesn't hurt that she's totally game and willing to do whatever you ask her to do, which makes it even more enjoyable.  Anyhow, I loved shooting with Greg and Gina, and I can't wait for their wedding in a couple months, I think it's going to be a total blast.

Edited to say: I didn't mention it when I first posted these photos, because I hadn't talked to Gina and Greg about it, however, now that I've posted their wedding photos, and talked to them about it, (and I wanted to be respectful to them), but they said it was fine if I mentioned that Greg also happens to be a member of the super-awesome band, Smashmouth.  Even more important, they're both really great people, and they happen to be amazingly photogenic -- lucky me!

Victor O'Hana Family Band

 

I had the privilege of doing another CD/Band shoot recently.  The Victor O'Hana Family Band (a multi-generational hawaiian band), asked me to shoot them for the first CD release.  It's always fun to do a different kind of shoot, and doing a CD-cover shoot can be a lot more creative than a family or couples engagement shoot. I get to push the envelope a little bit with post-processing and what I ask them to do, and they were game for anything.  They're such a great family, and I felt so blessed to be asked to shoot them for their debut CD.  Below are a few of my favorites...and there are more after the jump.

 

Josh Fox -- The Photo Session

 

I am incredibly privileged to be related to many talented and gifted people.  One of those people, Josh, I am related to by marriage, and he's someone that is not only an incredibly great guy, and married to a wonderful woman (my adorable cousin, Dani, pictured below the jump), but he's also worship leader and pastor at Vintage Faith church. He's incredibly talented; both as a singer and a songwriter.  He's going to be speaking at a massive pastoral conference, for pastors all over the U.S. in southern California this next week.  We've been talking for awhile about doing a photo shoot, and so we finally did it. 

We had SO much fun shooting all over Santa Cruz - we went from the Boardwalk, to Cafe Pergolesi, to Vintage Faith.  Josh was so much fun to shoot; not only is he a fun guy in general, but he was game to try anything. And because it was a artsy/music-y type of shoot, I could really push the limits of fun and funky photography, not only during the shoot, but afterwards during post-processing. I had SO much fun just letting my imagination go crazy with colors and whatnot, as you'll see below. It's pretty rare to be able to really just let loose, since I'm usually shooting engagement or family portraits, so when I get a chance to be super-creative and have fun, I go for it.
